Is Ketera Missing the Big Picture?
Aravo appreciates Ketera?s new ?Supplier Connect? tool as it validates some of the customer pain-points Aravo has targeted with our Supplier Information Management (SIM) platform since our inception in 2000. However, there are key differences between the offerings. From a pure supplier information management (SIM) strategy perspective, Aravo views this problem from a broader, enterprise-wide perspective rather than a narrow, eprocurement/source-to-pay perspective. Aravo views supplier information as a strategic asset vital to the financial success of the enterprise, an asset which crosses divisions and functional departments, internal and external roles, multiple geographies, and complex parent-child relationships. SIM also involves integration with multiple systems as most large enterprises today have diverse supplier information spread across many different ERPs (Oracle, SAP, Peoplesoft, etc.), e-procurement/e-sourcing platforms, risk management systems, PLM systems, etc. Compounding the problem, most large companies have many different people and processes attempting to coordinate with suppliers including sourcing, procurement, accounts payable, supply chain, risk management, manufacturing, and compliance just to name a few. Add in recent board room initiatives such as lead-free (RoHS/REACH) compliance, green sourcing, and factory audits, and you begin to better appreciate that the depth and breadth of the SIM problem, as it extends well beyond the procurement department. Thus, it is not just about increasing eprocurement transactions or running sourcing events any longer ? ?real? supplier information management is far more complex and requires an enterprise-wide approach supported by mature solutions with the requisite depth to meet the requirements of global enterprises.
