Software that is Updated Via Web
I think the author views webware as a presentation that is generated by a web server. Something where the output is a web page . Something that involved JSP, ASP or at least Apache or II2. But lets not forget Java applications delivered via web start. Java Web Start ensures that the most current version of the application will be deployed, as well as the correct version of the Java Runtime Environment (JRE). This webware is meant for every device that uses a computer. That would include every auto, every phone device, every appliance, every video browser.

If you use AOL you can see what Web 2.0 has done. AOL provides a virus program (MacaFee?) where you can be notified every time an application requests web access. I was greatly amused by the notifications. Not only are the Microsoft applications requesting web access (for updates and ownership verification I suppose) but so is the Ipod software and the Java Virtual Machine. You have only limited control in granting access to the web. Microsoft applications, for example, get access regardless (now why should that be the case). Ipod requests can be agreed to or not as is the case with Java.

My point is that we might as well consider every new Microsoft product as Webware since the Web is used contently for verification of ownership and update. In that regard do we need a new type of ware? Rather is it not all software. If we have a term webware then we also need a term pre-webware.
