I still prefer Distributed
When you set up the Namespace "properly" a sysadmin can handle both client and server machines - i.e. No gurus vs. grunts. With the same configuration on all machines, it is easy to bring machines up in short order. Client maintenance consists of 1) Reboot and then troubleshoot. If it takes more than 30 minutes, 2) Reload.

All applications are NFS served from (real true) APP servers and are load balanced and fault tolerant. In order to "deploy" a new application, you first install it on the server - configure it - and whenever the site is ready, flip a bit to provide access to all.

With caching filesystems, you can work when the network goes down (if your personal data is local - which makes sense in a fully distributed world).

The icing on the cake is fully autonomic computer systems. Self configuration allows computers to assume any role - so things like test environment servers can be quickly (automatically) re-provisioned to run production - when prod goes down. All without human interaction (well, human decision making vs. hands on human sysadmin work).
