they're all dying
can three men dying in a boat save one another, well I guess cannibalism could work.

HP: has cut their printer line so much that I have to wait a month to get a printer shipped direct from them

Intel: actually the strongest of the bunch, but your right their strength comes from the number of chips sold, and ability to outmanufacture the competition.

Dell: One time winner on the way out.

Microsoft: Latest product (W7) is no breakthrough, patching strategies for the windows environment leave me constantly updating (no wonder why shutdown and boot times are so important!) NO new innovation, in fact the gui is so overblown that it's annoying. There are ways to screw up the IT side of things everywhere, now anyone can find the settings to wreck the system (read: your children) The screen resolution is no longer configurable in any meaningful way, and totally screws up the basic focus of whats on the screen. No help for backups either, since you still have to work to synchronize folders across a network (or internet connection) and just basic crashiness (I had a bad external disk which froze my system every time I tried to look at it) Really they have not progressed at all, just repackaged the whole mess. Internet explorer 8, just ridiculous default settings that preclude me using it for anything but banking, and so many warnings overall that if I didn't know better I would be afraid to use the computer at all. They are sowing their OWN FUD!!!

And of course now they're going to get into the anti-virus business........

Pretty broken machine except for intel, who if they were smart would buy up the rest, since at least they can recognize a good idea when the see it.
