Interesting thoughts
It's saddening that thought is such a rare thing among us humans.
Imagine how different the world might have been.

"The applications to IT are less obvious but equally compelling. If
you believe, for example, in the achievability of wintel security, you?ll
spend lots of money setting your employer up for an embarrassing
loss of customer data; if you believe Wintel cheaper than any Unix
you?ll spend lots of money causing your employer to lose the cost and
productivity advantages of the cheaper technology; and if you buy into
the idea that Wintel empowers employees you?ll find yourself spending
lots of your employers money restricting what those employees can do
with ?their? machines."

How uncharacteristic for a blogger at ZDNet.
Considering the expensive and tragic consequences of so many
people having chosen the wintel platform for both home and business,
is this a particularly saddening example of lack of thought.

In a perfect world would RISC and UNIX rule with speed, rock solid
stability and great security. I think it will eventually anyway. Look at
our handheld devices, ARM, Symbian and OS X. I don't think the wintel
guys has much to compete with here.
