Hyperthreading?
Murph, could you explain the differences
between real threading, (the long abandoned)
hyperthreading used before multi-cores on intel
chips and those new coolthreads?

And maybe tell us why they are so desirable
that you see intel go that way as well?

Hyperthreading was essentially a poor-mans
multicore in that it had a single core but
multiple (2x) pipelines. To me it sounds
suspiciously like those new coolthreads.
I would be interested in the difference.

Not that the concept sucks. It makes perfect
sense to use them as a way to boost parallel
execution without paying the full price for
multiple cores. A hybrid could still make
sense. Is that what the coolthreads are?
