One application per server
This model is pathetic. Mainframes can run more than one application at a time. So can UNIX machines. Windoze CAN run more than one application at a time, but the more apps you run simultaneously - the higher the risk (of failure).

This is why I don't understand how M$ can hope to create a cloud. Running the cloud "application layer" in addition to applications on top of that - is sure to be a recipe for disaster. Amazon and Google have both had catastrophic failures of their "clouds" - and they run Linux - so what hope does Windoze have of running smoothly? If you can't guarantee 99.999% (five nines) uptime/availability - then you are better off running on a mainframe (in your local presence).

You actually did a fine job explaining how the Windoze architecture works (without too much bias ...)

P.S. have you ever heard of a UPS system failing and cutting the power to a server room? There's a SPOF that I haven't heard of before . . .
