Growing Pains?
Is it that they are doing an end run? Or is it that some are seeing the power of connectivity and desire to find ways of leveraging it? Perhaps both.

There is always some hype surrounding new technology but after that's gone, something usually stick.

When OOP first hit, it was a huge rage and there was much hype about code re-use. Today, OOP is mainly a way of decomposing complex programming problems. The code re-use promises have mostly faded. But OOP is here to stay because the technology really did have value to offer.
