Stick to what you know, Murph!
Hmm, last week you were saying you had little experience with SMEs (and were offering space on your blog to those who do), today you are making stunningly sweeping generalizations about their employees! Where's your data!?

My business focus, since 1993, has been to provide software development services to SMEs. In the last 15 years, I have worked with several hundred of them, in across a number of different European countries.

Obviously, we've not explored the financial systems of all these companies, but where we have, every single one of them has used some kind of small business accounting package. QuickBooks and Sage being quite common, but there does seem to be a lot of stuff out there for this market.

The filing requirements for SMEs are usually much simpler than for larger organisations, and I suspect that (ironically) the need to use Excel to address limitations of the financials system is far more common in larger organisations.
