When and how to explain

I recall from the Comment that you refused to provide full explanations, in Comment or TalkBack because you would have required too much time and space. (Paraphrasing.)

As at that time, I'll observe that assertions must be supportable, by data or by logic. Trust me fails to Trust but verify.

An unsupported assertion, whatever the motive for not adding to the statement, has reduced credibility even when the one making the statement is known to be knowledgeable. When that person is also known to have preferences, doubt can be automatic, and the assertion discounted.

And I'm not certain "smart enough to look it up on the internet" is sufficient, flattering as the implication might be. (Though also assuming an unflattering lack of full information on the subject.)

So condescension, the view from stupid, is regrettable, and The view from on high shows similarities.
