Let's say you have Company A that decides to run WebSphere on top of AIX and Company B that decides to run WebSphere on top of RHEL. WebSphere is certified to run on both OSs.

Now lets say you have an issue with an OS patch that was rescently applied. You often see a problem where two vendors will point fingers at each other completely denying responsibility even though each vendors product is certified to work with the other. They keep saying that it's not a problem with their product, there's nothing they can do about it, you have to contact that other vendor.

Company A at least has the option of telling IBM, I don't care what it costs, and I don't care which product actually has the issue, JUST FIX IT!

Whereas Company B is left negotiating with each vendor pleading with each to find and fix the issue.
