Same ol' same ol' battle I see
10-12 years ago I persuaded the IT powers in my company to relocate the IT analysis/development team for Sales/Marketing into the user areas for the duration of a major rework of all their systems. Seeing what actually happened (as opposed to what people though was/ought to be happening) speeded up the analysis and the usefullness of the systems delivered. It also broke down the 'them and us' syndrome and allowed for more collaborative/balanced decision making.
My ambassadorial skills must have been recognised because my next assignment was 'go persuade our German colleagues that ripping out their new Exchange mail servers and replacing them with LOUTUS NOTES will be in the company's best interests'
