I'll bet they can't do it
Sorry Murph, you saying "I'll bet they can't do it" is not good enough.

All along it was Linux that was the biggest threat to Solaris. You were evangelizing the enemy. Today its pretty evident, that open sourcing Solaris is negated. All the high end Solaris tools, features are being ported to Linux. Support is available for Linux for a lot cheaper than Solaris.

State of denial "I'll bet they can't do it", is a) where you are at OR
b) what you are hoping for.


SPARC chips to be competitive requires investing money in R&D. This is a sink hole for SUN.
Software development costs for Solaris, Java is another sink hole.

They better be making money in the truck loads in selling server and support. Now both these areas are under attack big time.

Costs of servers is pretty competitive.
Support costs of *nix is getting very very competitive. Where is SUN going to make all their profits to cover up for their sink hole (sparc and software).
