'F' troops
You would think that a company whose new corporate mantra is "Change or Die", would embrace change - and it's too soon to tell whether they will or won't, but care to hazard a guess? Company 'F' is in dire straits and they NEED the IT department to enable a turnaround. I will be there*, fighting hard to make that first step (Global Common Namespace).

"EVERYTHING ... in moderation" is the mantra I live by. Radical change like you are advocating, just seems to be swinging the pendulum all the way forward - while the purpose of the pendulum is to swing back and forth. First off, the way to transform a business is through communication! All lines of communication need to be defined first - so feedback and alterations can flow. Toyota has killed my company by following Dr. Demming with his continuous improvement technique. Kaizen (change is good) DIRECTLY feeds back information from the bottom of the hierarchy to the top. Without this flow, you will be franticly looking for a paddle!

You seem to advocate that since the communication from the hierarchy has broken down, that admins and users "conspire" to create "useful" applications with little communication upwards (other than take it and shut up). Without fostering 2-way communication in IT, your interesting but unworkable idea will fizzle.

*I will find out in December whether I get a "package" or not. You know of anyone hiring a enterprise systems architect?
