Selective comparison
OK, I'll give you that Xeon Mac pros are not that big advantage to
G5 PowerMacs today but with time Apple will optimize both OS X
and it's software better for the x86 architechture and expecially
x86-64 architechture, which will give gains compared to x86 by
increasing the register count and similar things.

The price of Mac Pro is less than it's predecessor, the internal
layout of Mac Pro is stellar compared to PowerMac G5 which had
terrible thermal characteristics and had to devote much of the
space for cooling.

And really, as I've said many times already, it's really all about
notebooks, not Pro desktop machines. You claim that pa semi,
IBM and Freescale would have produced the best laptop chips in
the world only if Apple would not have decided to go to x86. I've
not seen any proof to those claims. PA Semi has not shipped
anything yet, so that is just vapourware. Freescale has a track
record of delayed products and problems ramping both
production and performance up.

Technologywise IBM could perhaps had pulled it off but at what
price? I don't see IBM producing an Apple specific chip for less
the price than Intel, and even if they would have pulled it off
once, what about next year and the following year. Frankly, they
had their share of Freescaleesque problems with G5, should
Apple have taken the chance?

And really comparing princing and performance characteristics of
a game console chip to a desktop chip is not very interesting.
game console chips tend to be simpler than desktop chips. And
their pricing is negotiated totally differently to desktop or mobile
products, given the much longer production lifespan of a game
console chip.
