Sometimes you want content.
I went to a meeting of a LUG last night where the subject was Blogs and of course someone asked incredulously "You mean you believe Blogs?" In the course of the evening the credibility of the Wikipedia was challenged but the presenter's use of their entry on Blogs wasn't (while I was there).

The Wikipedia makes livelier reading than many bureaucrats reports, but the methodology of the editing inaures only some things get in. Everything is biased. Period. Even the no-frills searches you are describing, but you are assuming that the person doing the searching has no interest in specific facts buried in the governmental prose. I know too many antiquarians who only use the net for this kind of search ("I don't do email, only google" is a quote I have heard) to make that assumption.
