Prejudice
This is very true and it goes a very deep. I made a comment about the MacOS at our local library yesterday and the librarian, who knows I use Linux at home, said "I didn't know you've become a Mac convert, John."

I'm really not convinced Linux users have or can prove anything to most Windows users; it's more like most people are aware that what they say anywhere but in private may end up making big trouble.

It's probably safe to say that most Linux/Unix and FOSS users don't mind thinking about their computers. Most Windows users don't. Beyond that the consequences of our diversity sometimes makes communication within our communities more difficult than even we realize. I really do expect market forces to have more an effect on our overall communications than reason.
