- The "J"s are in charge
-
If you would take some time to understand human personality ("Please Understand Me - http://www.keirsey.com), you would understand HOW the world works. J(udging)- type individuals are pattern builders - they create a pattern and then become VERY efficient at running through it - over and over and over again. These people LIVE in "the box", and OPTIMIZE EVERYTHING inside of the box. But since they spend ALL of their time there, they run out of REASONABLE things to do, so they start doing unreasonable things i.e. micromanagement. These people comprise 50% of the general population, but are OVERrepresented in managerial roles. THEY ARE ORGANIZED - so they end up in management.
The polar opposite of the J-type, is the P(erceiving) type. These people never even ENTER "the box", living and thinking "outside". Their weakness is their LACK of organizational skills, so they don't reach management nearly as often.
Your Doctor Johnson seems to be a J-type. Process, patterns, and ONE WAY to do things define these black or white thinkers. Her "pattern" was well understood, and she employed it to perfection - even though it totally missed the mark. Her (and J-types in general) greatest weakness is CHANGE! J-types have SO MUCH INVESTED in their patterns, that any change comes at a "high cost".
Both P-types and J-types have 50% strengths and 50% weaknesses and a polar opposites. J-types are organized - P-types are not. J-types are thorough - P-types are slipshod. P-types can adapt quickly to changes, J-types cannot. P-types can find the deficiencies of "the box", J-types are unaware.
The real trick here is NOT to replace one type with another (as GW wants to do with the Supreme Court), but to place the RIGHT person in the BEST position for them to SUCCEED. But alas, it still comes down to confrontation - liberals (P) vs. conservatives (J), morals (J) vs. ethics (P), "Right wing" (J) vs. "Left Wing" (P), etc. Unless and until humans can understand each other, these problems will persist. - Posted by: Roger Ramjet Posted on: 04/04/06 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
