RE: White House probes NASA, as Europeans launch two advanced telescopes
The Webb telescope that will be launched after Hubble is decomissioned will be able to measure infrared just as well as the Planck and Herschel. The upgrades that will be done on Hubble by the STS-125 crew will enable it to see further and better than it has before. The days of the space race are over, Washington. Just because another country (that is very much a friend of NASA's) launches a telescope does not give way to mircoscrutiny and criticism of NASA's program.
