Propaganda always trumps truth
Yes, TPB openly ridiculed the asshats from the US that sent them DMCA takedowns. This was, of course, turned into a major point against them, and that was accomplished far easier than it should have been.

Naturally, the Propaganda Machine simply says that TPB didn't honour takedown requests from rights holders, and because of the takedowns, they had knowledge of the infringements.

What the courts should have taken full note of was that TPB complied with all APPLICABLE takedown requests. What they had no respect for, and rightly so, were the idiotic DMCA requests from the US. In reply to those, TPB merely treated the groups who sent them as the morons they were.

TPB had no obligation to take any actions based on these illegitimate claims, including even taking note of the possible infringements being described.

Legally, TPB didn't break any existing laws that governed them, and seemed to have every right to believe what they were doing with these DMCA notices was justified, and that they were safe within the law. Indeed, that should have been the case.

This farce of a trial just helps to illustrate once again the continuing collusion between these lobbying "trade groups" and world governments.
