Would that really block extradition?
Don't know anything about the extradition treaty between the US and the UK, but could not the US renew the extradition request once McKinnon was released?

Of course, I would hope that he wasn't so desperate to avoid extradition that he decided to plead guilty to things of which he wasn't guilty.
