Guilty of Heresy!
The society has behaved just like the Orthodox church behaved, whenever someone put forward ideas that were not in line with its doctrines. It is a shameful act by the society, and just underscores that religious intolerance exists everywhere - including in the realm of science.

There should be no room for doubt that creationism is completely unsupportable as a theory.

The above is nonsense. As I indicated here, science at best proposes that things are certain ways, and is unable to offer any guarantees that its proposals are the truth. Further, the weaker the perceptiveness of a creature, the poorer its assessment of its environment - making science produced by man (with his horribly weak senses) practically worthless. Man can verify explanations about the construction of the world we live in, by observing natural law, and by applying natural law to these various explanations in search of consistency. Natural law supports creationism, and it rules evolution to be fiction.
