The law being used to ruin people.
Person A suffers from clinical depression. Person B hurts person A's feelings. Person A commits suicide. Now thousands of people are screaming for the blood of person B? How does that follow? Many emotional blows can lead a clinically depressed individual to commit suicide.

That aside, yes, we need more responsibility in our society, for many acts. But we also need to refrain from shrieking for the prosecution of every person who offends our sensibilities. That's not fostering responsibility; it's handing more power to government than history suggests is wise or indicated.

I wish citizens would stop thinking of the legal system as their personal avenger for bad behavior. The more behavior we criminalize, the harder it will become for even decent folks (unlike Ms. Drew) to avoid missteps that allow our government to ruin anyone at will.

It's amazing how people rush to give up their protections. Even more amazing is how often they don't realize they're doing it.
