So the anti-MS crowd should be happy, right?
I mean, they have been crying for years that MS should open up their formats.

Oh wait, what is that you say? MS opening up their formats takes away another club the MS haters can use to bash MS with, effectively making MS compete on a more level playing field.

Oh wait, you say you don't want a level playing field now? Because then another excuse for why your pet product fails in the marketplace goes away?

What exactly does the MS haters want? I am starting to think this is not about leveling the playing field at all, instead it is the need to protect old excuses for why people should not choose MS. "Proprietary formats". Sounds evil. If you can't say it any more then what else can you say?

I guess going back to completely secretive binary formats is the answer?

And please don't tell me MS should switch to ODF. It doesn't support a large part of the features Office uses. Excel formulas?

This constant crying from the anti-MS crowd is pathetic. Deal with the fact that MS will once again produce the most sought-after product. Instead of crying, go fix your OSS products so that people actually want to use it over an MS product. And with OOXML a standard it will be even easier for you to make a competing product that is actually full featured, no?
