Technology Surpassing Even Orwell's 1984
It all started a few years ago with hacking into mainframe databases to steal personal data, and has now escalated to stealing laptops. And don't believe for a minute that the crooks are stealing the hardware just to sell that alone.

ID thieves are extremely sophisticated today, and know what they are taking, at least enough of them to make thousands of lives miserable. All they have to do is lay in wait one year and one day (until your credit watch has expired) and go for the gold: Your private information.

The real challenge is the Orwellian style pocket computer that can access a PC's hard drive, downloading all its data, as the holder simply walks past the machine. In the future, maybe, but so was Orwell's 1984.

There is only one way to protect the use of consumers? names and personal data. Pass federal legislation to give the individual control over it, and, while we?re at it, pay them when it is sold. You can read about it in my blog, The Dunning Letter at: http://thedunningletter.blogspot.com/2005_06_26_thedunningletter_archive.html
