DOH Spying on Web users
Based on the evidence given by the author, there was nothing in it to support the conclusion that Americans do not mind the Gov spying on their net activities. I completely disagree with the author's conclusion. Americans understand that the work place is not home. They understand that their employers are spying on them already anyway. Many of us understand that the web hosts the best and the worst of human endeavors without differentiation. For healthy individuals the words "horrific" and "revolting" come to mind in any description of these sites. Dangerous and sick pursuits have greatly multiplied on the web over the years. Work is at least a semi social environment. Perhaps we feel that a modicum of respectibility and civility should be excersised while at our work stations. To accept this in principle is a long shot away from concluding that Americans are OK with the knowledges that Uncle Sam may, without proving just cause, be studying everything they do on their home computers. This is every bit as intrusive and more than wire tapping. The survey did not address how Americans feel about that.
