Theory vs. reality.
Yup, all of that "sounds good" but the reality is the Telco's stopped investing in the infastructure because they seen no reason to finance thier competition. This has brought us to a point where the US is lagging FAR behind other countries in rolling out broadband. Why would anyone invest this kind of maoney only to hand it over to the competition? Answer, they didn't...

You claim it was a benefit to the consumer, but I hardly see anything I would call a benefit. My average phone bill didn't change, my monthly fee went up, and my service degraded. To top it off, half of the US still can't get broadband.

Indeed it is time for change and if we have learned anything it's that getting the government out of the way and allowing competition is ALWAYS the better solution.
