Given that, as you have observed, Apple is a luxury brand interested in full control of the user experience, and with little interest in being a development platform for the unvetted, this is a misleading comment.

Apple's strategy going forward is to continue to be Apple, working variations of its choosing on the product after it has become a fully recognized upscale brand.

"... different than ..." is so awkward and affected that it immediately says, I don't believe what I'm saying, but I've prepared it for your benefit.
