Read Your US History! Oh Multi-National Corporate Employee
First, thanks for taking on the elephant issue that is always with us and for which those who had remained silent in our industry and government had been rewarded with plumb jobs at Microsoft for keeping out of the public eye. (yea it is a dig but I believe that to be true)

Multi-national corporations such as Microsoft do not share US values. They are a threat to our form of democracy and the issue is as big as slavery was. It threatens dis-union. Hence rewards are given for keeping this discussion out of the public eye.

But we in the IT industry have suffered greatly for this collective blindness.

The ecosystem we have created here in the USA - The Internet, Web 2.0, Wireless broadband and the promiss of Universal Access to it, Java, Google, You Tube etc represents a gold mine that is being depleted by Europeans and others who have the knowledge and inclination to do so.

Since the constitution was mentioned in the article, I think it appropriate to discuss the American Party and Lincoln.

The American Party was opposed to immigration from Germany and Ireland but they were a strong states rights party (meaning right to own black slaves).

Lincoln pointed out that this view of whites being sub-human on par with black slaves (some historians say it is white Catholics being equal to black slaves) could not be supported and his arguments contributed to the absorption of the American party into Lincoln's Republican party which did not object to German and Irish (lets just say EU) immigration but did object to slavery.

Lets also point out that no US citizen of Lincoln's time objected to immigrants from what is now Canada or Mexico. What was objected to was that immigrants from the EU chose almost exclusively to come to the America's through New York and rarely entered via more northern or southern ports of entry. When they came they came with notions of government that did not and still do not mesh with notions of the Founding Fathers. Those notions are best illustrated by warentless wire taping and data mining but also by government support of monopolies including banking monopolies.

I hope the above is helpful in your efforts to ligitimize Microsoft. Lets propose that Microsoft split itself into a Microsoft USA and a Microsoft EU and that while the same products might be supported that they not share management or share holders.

I make this proposal as a US patriot who has worked for Microsoft on more than one occasion but for professional reasons does not invest in IT related stocks.
