Profound misunderstanding
I'm hoping that it's just a misunderstanding and not a malicious effort to spread FUD John...

First off, GPL v 3 isn't even a license yet, it's a PROPOSED license that hasn't been finalized.

Second, all software currently licensed under GPL v 2 will remain licensed under GPL v 2 from now until the end of time. Does this mean that GCC will remain GPL v 2? Of course not, but the current version (or latest version released before a v 3 license) will remain perfectly usable.

Also, the Linux kernel does not require GCC. You need a compatible C compiler to compile it, but it doesn't actually USE the code from GCC. (This is why you can write GPL software in VB.)

If that's not enough then you can also look up all the things that are LGPL licensed in the kernel.

Finally, what do you care about all this anyway? This doesn't affect your cherished MS ecosystem in any way shape or form?
