Perhaps...
...someone could set me straight on this (and I'm sure they will), but I can see a similarity between the push for net neutrality and the reactions to the 9-11 attacks that led to such things as the Patriot Act. (I hate to bring this up, because I know Jeff is going to chime in off-topic, but it can't be helped.) In both cases, it seems to me that what we have is a knee-jerk reaction to a hypothetical or potential problem; in both cases, we are running to the government to protect us from the bad guys (telcos and terrorists, respectively).

As far as I can tell, all of the talk about how telcos COULD or MIGHT do something to restrict or discriminate is just FUD, designed to scare us into turning still more power over to the government. Can anyone give me an example of a telco or other backbone provider that has actually done any of the things they are already being accused of?
