Being open is best

I think there are many ways to help on the internet and in some cases, these also present or require that you may make money. For example, if you create a Google custom search engine they will place advertisements and you can either let Google benefit or take the benefit yourself.

I created a custom search engine for myself and I've shared it with others. But I've also pointed out that the money raised is being put to a charitable use. This is because if I don't point out that (A)I'm making money from advertising and (B)What I plan to do with it, then I believe people wouldn't use the engine and everyone would lose.

It's always best to be upfront about these things.
