watermarking doesn't seem like an incredibly unreasonable compromise...
I'm no fan of DRM by any means, but watermarking seems like the closest thing to a compromise we're gonna get. as long as:

-the watermarking doesn't involve anything personally identifiable (an itunes or napter account number would fit this bill, failure to do so is a security rist for customers).
-the watermark itself is encrypted as to prevent forgery, or can at least be tamper evident (failure to do so makes it easy for customers to be framed).
-the files containing a watermark are reasonably universal (read: MP3, 'nonprotected' wma, AAC. Failure to do so would require transcoding or purchase of new hardware and software).
-the watermark does not alter the actual content - i.e. data directly responsible for reproducing audio or video (Failure to do so would detract from the value of the product being purchased).

...then I have no problem with the watermarking.
