- The things you don't seem to understand
-
I'm willing to be Jobs has zero regrets about calling for no DRM. What you don't seem to understand is that Apple seems ready to compete solely on merit, on the quality of their products and the ease of use of their music store. I know this is unheard of in this day and age of monopoly-lock-ins, but let's give Apple some credit here for being willing to fight a fair fight. Personally, I think the iPod/iTunes lock-in stuff was overblown, given the tiny percentage of music sold via iTunes, and so it's something easy for Apple to let go--it never really made a difference anyway. People weren't buying iPods because they were locked-in, they were buying them because they wanted them.
You also don't seem to understand how mp3 files work, and given your questions, how digital files in general work. Without the DRM, yes you can make as many copies as you want, and give them away to as many people as you want. Just like you can currently do with the digital files you buy on a CD. Making those same files available via the internet rather than on physical media makes absolutely no difference. - Posted by: tic swayback Posted on: 05/17/07 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
