Correction on Zune
The main diffrence between Zune DRM and PlaysForSure is that Microsoft paid for the licenses needed for wireless use, as I recall from an interview with Mr. Ballmer. The same agreements were not available to competitors, but I don't know that any competitor wanted to pay license fees for the same functionality.

At any rate, it's not a simple matter of denying a form of DRM to competitors in the market.
