Lies?
Whilst in college studying Mathematics, I had a teacher who always used to throw various quotes at us, one that I remember perfectly is the following:-

There are lies, damned lies, and then statistics

Using statistical data to represent what you want it to say has been around for more generations than any of us can hope to remember, perhaps the greatest exponents of this art-form are governments and the attendant civil services, so what`s new?..Intel use outdated,retired and various other data to show that they are top of the tree...I`m certain that AMD etc, wil counteract with similar data showing that, in fact (or according to statistics at least) THEY are really the top of the tree and not Intel...
