t_mohajir has a point
The average user is bad enough. The below average user (of which there are lots and lots) is either

a) terrified by their computer, or
b) is invicible (in THEIR humble opinion!), or
c) permanently baffled, or
d) frankly my dear, doesn't give a d*mn!

No matter how you try to protect these people their own ineptitude will bring them low.

It's sad really, but it's a sort of Darwinian evolution where the slow, the stupid and the careless get their machines trashed whilst the rest of us migrate to Linux/Mac (sorry - I couldn't resist that happy )

The truly sad thing is that in nature the unfit get eliminated (i.e. trashed PCs) but with computers the rest of us suffer as the PCs of the "unfit" get zombied and spam us. Until we are prepared to take PCs of the stupid and the careless and crush them like confiscated cars then this problem will never be solved. IMHO it's a very unlikely solution.
