Low-end Lexmark printers are a good example of this
Because Lexmark, HP and others use ink cartridges that have a combined printhead, the price of these cartridges is often greater than the printer itself. My father recently bought a Lexmark X1270 All-in-one for home admin duties for ?19.99 ($40.00 approx), yet the cost of the replacement cartridges is ?42.99 ($85.00 approx). When these cartridges run out, the printer will get E-bay'd and a new one ordered (with two moderate use cartridges installed).

What a way to protect the environment, throw-away printers!!!
