- You point out the true flaw...

...of online programs.
How many times in the past have I typed a page into MS Office only to have the
program crash after a few minutes of typing. This is the loss of almost a full page
of work in addition to the annoyance of having to re-write. I know that the
marketplace is positioned to convince the public that this is a better solution, but
as a consumer, I can honestly say - not for me. It is bad enough for me to have to
depend on a local program to stay on top of what I am doing (and they are doing a
much better job of it now than in the past), but to be dependent on an internet
connection makes it all just too tenous.
In addition - what could an internet-based spreadsheet or word processor offer
me that I could not acquire in a very affordable personally owned piece of
software? The cost of a monthly payment would be cost prohibitive for the
average user who does not produce on that level.
As for business implementation - they will try to sell this to the industries as the
cheapest form of deployment - only one quick monthly payment, access from
anywhere, no repetition of individual unit configurations. There will be businesses
that bite, but, I don't think enough will to make it all viable. The companies will
still have to maintain IT departments and the unit maintenance is really a small
part of their workflow - something that fills the gaps inbetween the server
manipulation/maintenance. And, individual equipment will still have to be
configured and maintained, so the savings regarding the less problematic
software additions would be minimal or non-existent. In my humble opinion,
saavy, well-managed businesses will crunch numbers and pass on this option. - Posted by: ladyirol Posted on: 12/23/06 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
