Let's hope rootkits do get banned
Even though the term entered the public eye with the Sony scandal, rootkits have been around awhile. In fact they started out on *nix systems, with rootkit writers creating and sending fake versions of system utilities and commands to create backdoors or get root(Adminstrative) access for all sorts of malicious intents. So rootkits aren't only a Windows problem, but something that can hurt ANY OS. So even if outlawing rootkits won't stop malicious hackers, it would make the "next Sony" think twice about employing such an irresponsible solution.

Speaking of the "next Sony", already we have a contender to that title:

A rootkit ban just can't happen soon enough!
