I don't agree.
One of the reasons I was hired where I work, besides the fact I don't partake in any "recreational" drugs and have absolutely no problem with taking a drug screen, is because I do think outside the box and I use my creative self, which is less clouded than if I were to partake in a variety of drugs, even pot.

Another reason companies have whiz quizzes (as we called them in the Navy) is simple, they do not want any potential health liabilities nor do they wish to take the chance of any potential legal issues arising due to drug use or by bringing drugs on the premises.

While I agree what you do on your time is your business as is what you do in your own home, how you represent any employer is their business. But what you do is perceived as a direct reflection on the company you represent.

Also what if several people call in sick, and you are the last person available and it's busy and you are stoned? Now as soon as you report to work you are in direct violation of company policy. That is a poor reflection on the company and will violate their standing policy illegal drugs. Now yes the argument can be made that the same is true of alcohol, but alcohol is legal and can be purchased over the counter without a prescription. Significant difference between the two.

Personally I have no problem with a business that is paying me a salary or wage, testing me for drugs. Then again I don't use them so I have nothing to worry about. And since I had to do it for close to 14 years in the Navy it's not a big deal to me.

Bottom line, if a company insists on a whiz quiz, and you have a problem with it then don't work for them or you can clean up and stop taking whatever it is if you need that job bad enough. You have a choice, and until you are hired noone is forcing you. But once you are on the payroll then they make the rules or you hit the road.

If you want to have your cake and eat it too, move to Denmark. devil
