Mostly right, but...
I think that the "why" of the outage -- if and when the true cause is revealed -- may have the most impact on Skype's 'popularity'.
If it truly is a "glitch", then (I believe) it will be forgotten. If it was a DoS attack (obviously successful) users will need reassurance that this won't happen again, or they will switch providers (possibly to SightSpeed, or they may decide it's time to pay for QoS).
If the idea that the outage was cause by -- as the more paranoid of us suspect -- US gov't eavesdropping "backdoors", then I'm sure some folks will boycott, and Skype will be hurt.

As a very small SMB owner, I use Skype as the (preferred) method for providing my services (phone-based) outside of my local area, as landline long-distance and toll-free calls can quickly add up. The VoIP offered through my ISP isn't cheap. The other VoIP's do not offer such a significant price-break over AT&T that I feel compelled to "switch".
SunRocket's failure didn't help to convince me to switch either.
