Hey Russell,
great to meet you at Gnomedex last weekend.
About skype - I've used Skype for 2.5 years. I first used it to do podcasting interviews, but have now used it for IM AND VoIP conversations. I wish Skype phones were less expensive as I'd consider using those for my home phone solution, until then I use a commercial voip provider.
If I had it my way, I'd have all my IM friends transition to skype because of the features it offers including encryption, video/voice calling and more.
