Digium Asterisk-Vyatta VoIP solution poses threat to Cisco and others

I would be scared...

If I were Cisco, plus I would add Avaya (Lucent) and Nortel, just to name a couple of large telecom PBX companies. We have deployed 5 Astersik based PBX in our company at 4 of our regional offices, the 5th being a bridge between our 3 legacy Lucent PBX's. I have over 10 years of expereince working on Lucent and Nortel PBX's and I have found the Asterisk PBX just as reliable and as feature rich as either of them. Plus, the cost savings was also a big factor. We had Avaya give a bid for one of the smaller offices, 15 employees. They wanted $15K for their system. With Asterisk, we accomplished the same thing while only spending $3500. To say the president of the compnay was happy is an understatement.

Now, we have evaluated Vyatta in our test lab, and have found it to be just has good as most Cisco equipment. So, given the combination of the 2 products, if I were the "big" boys, I would be very scared and worried.
