- VoIP not ready for the bigtime
-
I had Vonage for my home phone service. Vonage--the company--itself was a
nightmare (I'm back with Verizon now). But the Vonage VoIP service was almost as
bad. Voice quality was ok, but not as clear as a wire-line. And if I was uploading
or downloading something during a call I'd experience a lot of breaking up, or
garbled audio (as did the person I was speaking to). Sometimes I'd have that
problem even if I wasn't uploading/downloading anything.
Now I use Verizon wire-line for my home service and Verizon VoIP (Voicewing) for
my business. The voice quality is about the same as Vonage. And I still get
breakups and garbled voices from time to time. It's livable for my uses because
most of my business calls are forwarded directly to my cell.
The point is, VoIP isn't clear enough, it isn't reliable enough, and it isn't as rock-
solid-sturdy as a wired line (or even a cell phone for that matter!). VoIP isn't ready
for the real world yet. It's actually a step backwards in telecommunications in
terms of clarity and reliability. And what's the sense is moving backwards? - Posted by: theMacDaddy Posted on: 05/12/07 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
