cpu, memory, palm pilots
Hm. Referring to the box as the "CPU," e.g. "move the CPU over there" -- that puts my teeth on edge. Referring to a hard drive as "memory," e.g. "800 gigs of memory."

Regarding the Palm Pilot problem, part of it is it's just so awkward to refer to them as "palms," or "PDAs," or "Palm PDA," or "handheld computer." No really suitable, catchy, not-stupid-sounding term has been invented yet for those things, and frankly "Palm Pilot" is the best in current usage, even though it's technically wrong. The uber-hip cult show Nikita referred to them (or at least a reasonable facsimile) as "panels," which to date is the catchiest least offensive term I've run into.
