Where is the videophone?
Very interesting commentary.

Videophone technology is here, right now. You can get TV quality video communications across the Net. Soon we will see full video conferencing capability for remote, virtual, and mobile comunications as well as videoconferencing as easy as teleconferencing.

The question is how is it going to transition? Our firm is betting that video communications will be ASP-based. IM is too disparate, non-seamless, and unmanaged. Our view is that video communications is going to look like a telecom model, completely different from IM text and voice tools we see today.

If I had seen an evolution of seamless IM text and voice, I would have believed otherwise. Our bet is that you will have different video comm ASPs with one protocol, that compete but allow millions to videocomm one another from ASP2ASP.
