Very Cool, But...
If I may add my $0.02, there are companies out there who don't like this, and don't think that you should have the ability to modify something you bought, and will use technology and the law (e.g. DMCA) to prevent you from doing this.

Case in point: Sony's self-destruct sequence in the Blu-Ray player specs.
