I recently wrote a blog at TR on ma.gnolia, the cloud based web bookmarking service.

It is clear that this cloud based business model did not do their due dilligence in backup and DR recovery planning, and when their DB imploded, it took valuable user data with it. The basic response of those involved? I'd sum it up as "caveat emptor". I also hear a lot of cloud services responding to data loss and downtime by saying, "come on, the service is free, what do you expect".

Are google services really FREE? Or are you agreeing to be subjected to tracking, and demographic profiling, and targeted advertising that nets Google millions of dollars in revenue. Is that actually FREE?

There are LOTS of things wrong with the Cloud based model.
