impatience and laziness?

Go back through a lot of articles on your site and you'll find a lot of articles hyping the transformative nature of SOA, the benefits of reuse, etc, etc.

SOA has been hyped and oversold from Day 1. It was sold as instant gratification. (Seriously.. read all of Dana's posts and find one that is not fanboy on SOA). There are no "sober SOA analysis", especially from the people selling con$ulting $ervice$.

The other items that are pointed out in your article (object oriented programming and Grid computing) also have one common feature with SOA..

They are architectures, not solutions.

In a world that needs houses and bridges, what is being sold amounts to "neo-classical" or "baroque". The form matters, but less than the core functionality. A house has to house things first and bridge has to bridge things first. SOA, like any other form of architecture has to be secondary to that. It isn't like architects go out into the world saying "Hey, let's build some art-deco.. but what kind.. I know.. a house".

Its an architecture. Just roll it into the "best practices" category and get on with life.
